UVA students who participate in the Huayu Best Chinese Language Center program will be awarded Direct (UVA) Credit after successful completion of the program. Students will be assigned a letter grade, which will factor into their GPA. Students may:
  • Based on the results of your placement exam, receive credit for:
    • CHIN 2559 - Intermediate Chinese Language and Culture I & II
      Or
    • CHIN 3559 - Advanced Chinese Language and Culture I & II
Please contact Ran Zhao in the Department of Middle Eastern & South Asian Languages & Cultures if you have questions.

Application Procedures

  • Submit the UVA application for approval by April 1. (There is no final submit button, but all items must be received by the deadline.)
  • As a Direct Credit program, note that you will not need to submit the Transfer Credit Approval form; please disregard this requirement as it will be marked as "not applicable" after you open an application.
  • Completed applications are reviewed by the ISO on a rolling basis, and you will be notified when your completed application has been reviewed.
  • If required, no approval or disciplinary forms will be submitted to Huayu Best until your UVA application has been approved.  Approval to this program does not guarantee admission to the university, only the right to receive academic credit for participating in this program.
  • You must also apply to the program directly on Huayu Best's website (see the button above) by their listed deadline.  You must secure full admission and housing through our partner National Chengchi University's Huayu Best to fully participate in the program, and receive academic credit for this experience.
  • If approved, you will also be responsible for completing the ISO’s pre-departure process.

Passport and Visa

All participants will need a valid passport in order to participate in the program. Students must ensure that their passport is valid throughout the duration of stay. US passport holders will not need a visa to participate in this program, as a visa is not required for a stay of less than 90 days. International students should meet with their International Student Advisor in the International Studies Office as part of the application process.
