Withdrawal & Refund
Students are responsible for study abroad tuition and program fees once they have committed to attending a program. At the time of commitment, students will be subject to the withdrawal, cancellation, and refund policy found here: Withdrawal, Cancellation, and Refund PolicyIn some cases, there will be no refund available.

Payment
  
For Fall programs, the following schedule applies:
 
  • 100% of billable program fees, housing, and airfare are due 30 days prior to program start date
  • Billable Program Fees, Billable Airfare, and Billable Housing are in addition to regular on-grounds tuition and fees and will appear in your SIS account as separate line items 
  • Education Abroad Registration and Billing
  • Payment information is available through Student Financial Services
  • No term statement is issued for students studying abroad
 
Billable Fees* include:
  • International airfare from USA to Venice (via Amsterdam)
  • Roundtrip coach transportation from Charlottesville to Washington Dulles
  • Arrival and departure transportation in Venice (transportation between airport and lodging)
  • Shared occupancy in Venice student lodging (room type may vary)
  • Daily breakfast included with student lodging 
  • Daily use of meeting space at Venice student lodging
  • Day trips to nearby Italian cities including transportation and entrances
  • Overnight trips at the front-end of the program
    • 03 nights in Amsterdam in shared occupancy lodging
    • 02 nights in Rotterdam in shared occupancy lodging
    • 03 nights in Vicenza in shared occupancy lodging
    • 02 nights in Bressanone (Brixen) in shared occupancy lodging
    • Included on front-end travel: breakfast at hotels, public transit, luggage storage, and trains or coach transportation between cities
  • Entry fees to study sites in and around Venice and the Netherlands
  • Welcome and farewell dinner receptions in Venice as well as some group lunches and dinners on travel days
  • Some local public transportation costs
  • 1.92 metric tons of carbon for student flights from IAD to VCE (via AMS) will be offset in alignment with the Sustainability Plans of the International Studies Office and the University of Virginia
  • Health and Emergency Assistance Insurance through CISI. The ISO will enroll students in the insurance policy for the program dates

Note regarding group meals: 
Every effort will be made to accommodate dietary restrictions during group meals; however, all countries have distinct cuisines along with food preparation techniques, and it is not always possible to address specific food concerns and meet needs.   Program participants are responsible for ensuring their needs can be met for their chosen program itinerary.
 
 
Non-Billable, Estimated Expenses:
  • Most lunches and dinners on own ($33/EUR 30 per day) assuming some meals taken in room and modest local restaurants 
  • Local transportation: EUR 100 for discount card  + EUR 37 for month pass + extra for additional weeks
  • Personal expenses: Laundry, international phone and data service, and daily incidentals
 
Non-billable items posted above are estimates and will differ for each individual depending on their personal needs, course requirements, and personal choices.  Fluctuations in international currency will affect total expenditures. 
 
Other Considerations: Some possible costs are not included in this budget, may not be applicable to all students, and will differ by individual if applicable. These may include but are not limited to:
 
  • Personal travel beyond the scope of the program,
  • Immunizations for the area of travel,
  • Visa fees (non-US citizens are subject to different regulations and fees) - visa fees and regulations are subject to change
  • Passport fees
  • Health and emergency coverage with CISI beyond the program dates
 
Trip Insurance: The ISO recommends that travelers consider trip insurance that can be tapped in the event travel to or from the
education abroad destination is interrupted or in the event itinerary changes become necessary.
 
 *The University of Virginia reserves the right to adjust all program charges, without prior notification, for increases associated with but not limited to, the cost of instruction, foreign exchange rates, and Board of Visitors changes to tuition and fees.
 
In addition, the University of Virginia reserves the right to alter or cancel this education abroad program in the event of an emergency, changes in operating conditions, or under-enrollment.
