Buenos Aires - Latin American Societies & Cultures

Program Overview

If you're ready for an urban adventure, Buenos Aires is your city. With endless city districts and neighborhoods to explore, you will get lost in the sights and sounds of Buenos Aires. Tango the night away as you learn the country's popular dance, attend one of the many soccer games, and browse the local art scene--all this and more awaits you as a study abroad student in Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires will also be your classroom. Learn about visual arts in the city and then meet with local graffiti artists before seeing their work. Study the impact of globalization in Latin America and then get an internship with one of the country's top businesses. Welcome to study abroad!

Open to students of all language levels, the Latin American Societies & Cultures Program allows you to improve your Spanish language skills while taking courses in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, all of which feature an academic emphasis on Latin America.

Why Buenos Aires?

We have to be honest--you're going to fall in love with Buenos Aires. You'll swoon over the eclectic architecture, inspired by cities like Paris and Madrid. You may even learn to tango in the birthplace of this sensual dance. Don't wait any longer--find out why this is a love affair to last a lifetime.

Student Life

We strive to make sure you feel safe, cared for, and at home while you’re away from home. Whether it’s the orientation program that makes you feel prepared, your housing that is well-located and comfortable, the cultural events that make it easy and fun to meet other international and local students, or the field trips and walking tours that take you to places tourists don’t usually see—we’re all about our student service. Learn more about the day-to-day studying abroad on this program. From field trips to housing, it’s all on IES Abroad’s website.

Study Abroad in Buenos Aires
Latin American Societies and Cultures Program

Why Buenos Aires?
Poised between the sweeping Río de la Plata and the legendary pampas, Buenos Aires and its metro area is home to one-third of Argentina's population of 38 million people, making it a hub of public debate, political action, and reform movements.

Study abroad in Buenos Aires and explore the capital city's wide avenues, sprawling parks, and elegant 19th century Parisian-style architecture. Or get another view of the city on its narrow, crowded side streets, where graffiti and political posters show the grit of a modern metropolis and where soulful strains of tango still ring through the air.

The IES Abroad Buenos Aires Latin American Societies and Cultures Program

The IES Abroad Beginning & Intermediate Spanish Program is ideal for students interested in building their Spanish language skills through study in one of Latin America's most exciting cities. The program gives students the opportunity to examine Latin American studies in a wide range of disciplines and to immerse themselves in the culture of Argentina.

IES Abroad area studies courses are offered in Spanish and English in a wide range of disciplines, including Anthropology, Business, Film Studies, History, International Relations, Latin American Studies, Literature, Political Science, Public Health, Sociology, and Theater. IES Abroad courses are taught by local faculty at the IES Abroad Center.
