This application is for UVA students applying for approval to participate in a SIT: International Honors Program (IHP) study abroad programs.
Explore the world in one semester with SIT’s comparative multi-country programs!
Why go to just one country when you can study in at least three? SIT’s multi-country programs offer students the unique opportunity to spend a semester studying in multiple countries, learning from peers and locals throughout their journey. International Honors Programs (IHP) offer a unique academic experience for students eager to explore the world while diving into big global questions. Most IHPs begin with approximately ten days?in the United States before traveling to three different countries on three continents, spending about a month in each place. Through site visits, conversations with local experts, and hands-on experiences, students examine critical issues from both local and global perspectives to better understand how different communities approach shared challenges. All IHP Europe programs include a Eurail Pass.
Programs usually include 15 to 30 students, and days include a mix of classes, field visits, and time to reflect and engage with your cohort. Students are supported on their academic journey by a dedicated team, including a visiting faculty member, local faculty, in-country teams, and SIT’s Student Health, Safety, and Well-being (SHSW) team. These multi-country programs are a great fit for students who want to learn by doing, think across cultures, and grow both academically and personally.
Academics & Cultural Immersion
IHP programs are intellectually engaging and highly experiential, blending traditional classroom learning with real-world experiences, offering four courses taught by both traveling faculty and local experts.
Beyond the classroom, students immerse themselves in the daily life of their host countries, building meaningful connections through homestays with local families. These experiences—central to all SIT programs—offer a unique window into local culture and community life.
Throughout the semester, students develop adaptability, cross-cultural understanding, and confidence as they navigate new environments, build connections across cultures, and broaden their perspectives in ways that go beyond the traditional classroom.
