UVA in Belgium and the Netherlands: Sustainability Reporting and Assurance

 

This course focuses on the measurement and reporting of corporate social responsibility (CSR) information. The course will include: instruction about CSR reporting and standards governing CSR reporting; audit firm, regulator, and company visits; and completion of a CSR project (in teams).

COMM 5510, 3 credits

The course will begin with on-grounds meetings on Wednesdays during the beginning of the spring semester. The travel component over spring break will take place in Brussels, Belgium and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 

This 3-credit course (COMM 5510) is open to Masters of Accounting students, Commerce students, and 3rd and 4th year undergraduates seeking a major or minor in Global Studies-Environments + Sustainability. Commerce students will receive credit toward the Accounting concentration.

Professor Roberts specializes in issues related to nonprofit financial reporting and teaches courses in strategic cost management and leadership. She is also Director of McIntire's M.S. in Accounting program.

Professor Winchel specializes in financial reporting and disclosure issues. She teaches courses in financial accounting and in judgment and decision-making.

Passport IconPassport and Visa

All participants will need a valid passport in order to participate in the program. Students must ensure that their passport is valid at least six months past the program return date. US passport holders will not need a visa to participate in this program. International students should consult the embassy of Belgium and the embassy of the Netherlands websites for visa and entry requirements, and meet with their International Student Advisor in the International Studies Office for information about re-entering the U.S. at the conclusion of the program.
